Pop-punk star Avril Lavigne has decided to pursue a new musical direction on her next record. Speaking to Rolling Stone, the Fender Telecaster player said many of her new songs feature a stark and acoustic guitar-dominated sound.

"My last record was about loud guitars and energy, but this time I wanted to really feel my music," she commented.

Lavigne said that while it is easy for her to write a "boy-bashing pop song", writing a piece that is more meaningful and introspective is a "totally different thing".

She added that the main theme of her upcoming album is life.

Lavigne rose to prominence with hits such as I'm With You, Sk8er Boi and Complicated and has also enjoyed more recent successes including 2007's Girlfriend. She is working with her husband, Sum 41 electric guitar player Deryck Whibley, on her new record, which will be released before the end of the year.

Malaysian Muslims have been officially banned from attending a Black Eyed Peas concert in Kuala Lumpur on September 25 because it is sponsored by alcoholic drinks company Guinness.

Muslims in the country are subject to Islamic law, with officials at the Culture Ministry saying that the gig would not normally have been given the go-ahead at all, reports BBC News. It was given the green light because of the tourism boost it is expected to bring.

"Muslims cannot attend. Non-Muslims can go and have fun," a Ministry Of Information official told Associated Press of the gig, set to take place in a theme park.

Although Guinness is sponsoring the event, it is forbidden to sell the drink at the gig or use its logo in promotional material relating to it.

Acts including Beyonce and Avril Lavigne have previously faced opposition from Malaysian officials with regard to gigging in the country.

Rolling Stone hits the studio with Avril Lavigne, who’s hooking up musically with husband Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 on her next disc, for a progress report in our new issue. The big news: Lavigne isn’t looking to repeat the success of 2007’s smash single “Girlfriend,” nor is she looking to maintain her status as punk-pop’s snotty princess. On the as-yet-untitled November disc, Lavigne says she’s aiming for a more introspective sound with a stripped-down rock record driven by acoustic guitars.

“Life, that’s what this record is about,” Lavigne tells Rolling Stone. “It’s so easy for me to do a boy-bashing pop song, but to sit down and write honestly about something that’s really close to me, something I’ve been through, it’s a totally different thing.” Even though Lavigne is stepping away from the power-punk, she still packs the catchy hooks on songs like “Darlin’,” which was the second song Lavigne ever wrote as a 15-year-old living in Napanee, Ontario. Butch Walker also worked on Lavigne’s fourth LP.

While Lavigne’s previous albums hid her voice behind walls of production, her vocals are front-and-center on new tracks like “Everybody Hurts.” Other titles include “Black Star,” which was originally going to be the theme song for Avril’s fragrance of the same name, and “Fine.” “My last record was about loud guitars and energy, but this I wanted to really feel my music,” Lavigne told RS.

Canadian singer-actress Avril Lavigne has fuelled rumours she is set to split from husband Deryck Whibley after a series of solo nightouts in New York.

Lavigne and Whibley married in 2006 but were the target of speculation just two years later after a US tabloid reported they were on the verge of divorce.

(Splash News) - Avril Lavigne and her husband Deryck Whibley have been spotted grocery shopping together as rumors swirl that their three-year marriage is on the rocks.

Skater Boy singer Lavigne was still wearing her wedding ring as she and Whibley, 29, wandered through the aisles of Bristol Farms, in Beverly Hills, on Saturday. And Whibley, the lead singer of punk band Sum 41, was a true gentleman, carrying two bags of food out to the car.

Lavigne, 24, wore denim dungaree shorts, baseball pumps and a New York Yankees hat for the shopping trip.

"They certainly didn't look like they were in the middle of a break up," said an onlooker.

"They looked like any other normal couple doing their weekly shopping."

Lavigne has fueled rumors of an imminent split by enjoying a series of solo nights out in New York, and last weekend partied with a group of male admirers.

Hip-hop artist Drake has rubbished all rumours of an affair with singer Rihanna, calling it a purely professional association.

The gossip of the chart-topping pair kicked off after they were spotted together in New York, following Rihanna's break up with Chris Brown. But Drake says he's only trying to get Rihanna to record a duet for his next album.

"We're just really good [^] friends. We have great conversations about music, and we're trying to figure out the perfect song we can collaborate on for my album," Contactmusic quoted him as telling the New York [^] Post. "I've only worked with one other female before (Mary J Blige). I hope that Rihanna is onboard, and I'm also looking to work with Sade," he added.

Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend and singer Chris brown has been ordered 180 days’ community labour and five years’ probation for assaulting her.

The judge announced that the singer must do physical labour, not community service, apart from attending a 52-week domestic violence-counselling programme.

He has also been fined 2500 dollars and has been asked to maintain a physical distance of 100 yards from Rihanna for five years.

The judge has warned that the violation of the terms would be taken “very, very seriously,” the BBC reports.

The 20-year-old R&B star had pleaded guilty for the crime in June this year.

However, sentencing had been delayed from 5 August as a response was still awaited from officials in Virginia as to whether Brown could serve his community labour in that state.

He has to now reappear in court on 19 November for a progress report.

The incident had taken place before the Grammy awards in Los Angeles this February, when the pair got into an argument after Rihanna found a text message from another woman in Brown’s phone.

According to court documents, he tried to oust the Umbrella hitmaker from their rented Lamborghini sports car, and shoved her head against the passenger window and punched her in the face many times. (ANI)

R&B star Chris Brown had been involved in two unreported incidents of domestic violence prior to his February assault of Rihanna, according to a probation officer's report. Brown shoved Rihanna in a dispute late last year, and broke the windows of a car in an argument with the singer three weeks before she was found bruised and bleeding by Los Angeles police.

Details of the incidents emerged after Brown's probation officer filed a report at a hearing earlier this week. Brown was formally sentenced to five years' probation and 180 days of community labour, as agreed in a plea deal this June. He had been charged with the felonies of assault and making criminal threats against Rihanna following their altercation in the early hours of 8 February.

Three months before the assualt, however, Brown and Rihanna had another violent exchange. The pair were in Europe, the LA Times reports, when a "verbal dispute" broke out. Rihanna slapped Brown, who responded by pushing her into a wall.

The pattern repeated in January, when the celebrity couple were on holiday in Barbados, where Rihanna was brought up. After an argument broke out, Brown got out of the Range Rover they were driving and shattered both the front driver and passenger side windows.

Neither Rihanna, 21, nor Brown, 19, was injured in either incident. The altercations were not reported to authorities.

In an interview with the probation officer, Brown said he was "ashamed and embarrassed" and did not want to "carry on [the] cycle [of violence]". Besides probation, community labour and an order that he stay away from Rihanna, judge Patricia Schnegg instructed Brown to undergo a year-long domestic violence course in his home state of Virginia.

	A week in Rihanna's wardrobe Keeping track of Rihanna's fashion efforts has become a Grazia sport this year. Rarely seen in any ensemble twice, her flit between fierce 80s rock chick, pretty off-duty prints, classic cocktail frock dress-up and everything in between would keep even the shortest attention spans engaged.

In the future (after the apocalypse, I'm assuming), leather-clad gangs will battle for supremacy on the rubble-strewn streets of New York City. They will carry torches (perhaps the sun has been blotted out?) and scowl a lot. There also will be a whole lot of overturned/ burned-out vehicles, as is to be expected in any post-apocalyptic scenario. The future, it turns out, is vaguely reminiscent of "300," or maybe "The Warriors," or both.

That, in a nutshell, is the basic scenario of "Run This Town," the much-anticipated video that brings together three of the hugest names in the music industry — Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West — and casts them as warlords in a 23rd-century turf war.



Anyway, here's what you need to know about "Run This Town": It's three of the decade's biggest artists, appearing on one of the year's most talked-about songs, promoting the hugest rap album in recent memory (Jay's The Blueprint 3, due September 11). It really doesn't matter what they're doing in the video — their combined wattage is that powerful.

So credit director Anthony Mandler — who also helmed Jay's VMA-nominated "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" clip — for changing things up. Jay and Kanye have never gotten this gritty, and Rihanna hasn't looked this dark and menacing since her "Disturbia" clip (which, incidentally, was also directed by Mandler). The "Town" video is super-stylish; Mandler's visuals create a war-torn world that's dank and dangerous.

"I wanted something that didn't fit into 'this is New York, this is a building or a street [you know],' " Mandler told MTV News on Wednesday. "I wanted it to feel more ancient. I wanted it to feel more European, but on American soil. I didn't want it to have a framework, like, 'Oh, we're riding in New York.' "

As for the song, Jay went out of his way to proclaim that "D.O.A." wasn't meant for iTunes or the radio, which explains why "Run This Town" is being referred to as "the official first single" from Blueprint 3: It's aimed at digital retailers and radio programmers, a certified smash right out of the gate (and though, like "D.O.A.," it's also produced by West and No I.D., it's less knotty and more accessible). And it fits perfectly with Mandler's vision, too: The menacing, marching drum beats recall nothing if not the dark and deadly streets of tomorrow (and today, for that matter).

Given that "Run This Town" is, by its very definition, a star-driven vehicle, you couldn't blame everyone involved if they mailed it in and coasted by on name and reputation alone. But no one does that here ... not Mandler, not Jay, Rihanna or Kanye (though, strangely, he is noticeably absent for most of the clip's first three minutes). If all superstars worked this hard, the world would be a better place ... until it's destroyed by the apocalypse, that is.

Rihanna has sparked rumors she has a new man in her life after she was seen getting "touchy-feely" with Mary Kate Olsen's ex, Travis London.

The Umbrella star enjoyed a romantic night out with London last weekend, according to US reports. The pair are said to have enjoyed an intimate dinner at Santa Monica's Giorgio Baldi restaurant, in Los Angeles.

A source said: "They were very silly and touchy-feely. She looked like she was having a really good time."

Rihanna , 21, and London, who has been described as a "partygoing LA hipster" then headed to celebrity haunt, Chateau Marmont where they partied until the early hours with Katy Perry. London previously dated actress-turned-fashion-designer Mary-Kate Olsen.

Since Rihanna split from Chris Brown in February, she has been linked to a string of men, including rapper Drake. But earlier this week Drake - real name Aubrey Graham - claimed they were just good pals.

The Manhattan tattoo parlor where Rihanna was seen tattooing several people in July has been fined. According to a rep for the NYC Health Department, a citation has been issued to East Side Ink for allowing an unlicensed tattoo artist to work there.

"Yes, a violation was issued to East Side Ink after an inspector found the parlor operating with an unlicensed tattoo artist on the site," the rep tells MTV News about the violation. "All Health Code violations can range in fines between $200 and $2,000."

But the statement clarified that the fine was not actually for the Rihanna incident. "Rihanna was not found at the parlor when the Health Department inspector followed up," the statement continues. "The Health Department received a call about Rihanna, sent out an inspector, Rihanna was not at the site, the inspector conducted an inspection of the parlor and found an unlicensed tattoo artist operating on the premises — the Health Department issued a violation to the parlor for this unlicensed tattoo artist."

Back on July 2 after news broke that Rihanna had tattooed several of the employees of the shop, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene confirmed to MTV News that someone had been sent to the tattoo parlor to investigate the incident

Also in July, MTV News spoke to East Side Ink owner Yadira, who said that Rihanna hadn't visited East Side with the intention of inking her longtime tattoo artist, BangBang, as well as two other artists at the parlor.

Rihanna was there with a few friends and a bodyguard for "a few hours, just hanging out and joking," she said, and BangBang decided that he wanted the pop star to give him a tattoo. Yadira added, "We had a blast. It was so funny and cute."
