Leave it to the pop star who accessorized an Armani Prive gown with light-up angel wings to pull off a combination of sparkly lavender and lime green eye shadow.
"I wanted to play off the textures in her dress and the wings," celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey tells UsMagazine.com of the two-toned pastel eye effect that he gave Katy Perry for the Grammys, which he describes as, "angelic, sparkly and ethereal."
The key to making the trend look chic, not clownish, is use a subtle color combination and skip the glitter (which works on the red carpet and runway, but not so much in real life), says Bailey who recommends getting an eye shadow duo since the colors have been designed to complement one another. His pick: CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast.
Apply the paler shade on the lower lid and blend the darker one on your lid. Another option is to use an eye pencil in a bright shade on your lower lash lines. Start by working the pencil into the lash line and just slightly below it, then use your fingertip or a small brush to blend it, says Bailey. Finish the look with two coats of jet black mascara for contrast.
