Just five days after being posted to YouTube, a BYU group’s parody of Katy Perry’s “California Girls” has been seen more than 90,000 times.

“Provo, UT Girls” is the work of BYU’s comedy sketch group, Divine Comedy. It satirizes some of the common stereotypes about Mormon girls of dating and marrying age in Provo.

BYU comedy group's spoof of Katy Perry getting attention

Just five days after being posted to YouTube, a BYU group’s parody of Katy Perry’s “California Girls” has been seen more than 90,000 times.

“Provo, UT Girls” is the work of BYU’s comedy sketch group, Divine Comedy. It satirizes some of the common stereotypes about Mormon girls of dating and marrying age in Provo.

The parody was conceived by cast member Mallory Everton, a film major from Portland, Oregon, and lead singer in the video.

“When I heard this song on the radio over the summer, I couldn't help thinking how easily it could lend itself to a fun, BYU parody,” Everton said in a press release. “When we got back for fall semester, my cast mates and I just basically turned on the camera and went about our goofy business as usual. We had no idea it would end up with this kind of following. We were just trying to put something fun together for our October show.”

Provo, Utah Girls — we’re so desirable
Big hair, leggings and layered shirts on top
Rock modest — so hot, just like the pioneers
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
For girls at the Y
The most common major’s an MRS degree (Bachelor of young wife science)

She’ll plan the rest of your eternity (scary)
